Repost via @chefdadisiolutosin “Good morning, afternoon, evening and Happy Sunday and 1st Day of December!!! There’s so much to menu on this first day of a new month but I thought the most important thing to mention is that December 1st is World AIDS Day.
It’s seems that nearly 30 years after the first known cases of this dreadful disease being diagnosed we are still dealing with it. According to the United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS 2008 report, “AIDS has killed more than 25 million people between 1981 and 2007, and an estimated 33.2 million people worldwide live with HIV as of 2007, making it one of the most destructive epidemics in recorded history. Despite recent, improved access to antiretroviral treatment and care in many regions of the world, the AIDS epidemic claimed an estimated 2 million lives in 2007, of which about 270,000 were children.” On a very personal level, I am most bothered by the statistics indicating that people of African descent are disproportionately affected by both HIV infection and contraction rates of AIDS. On the African continent, throughout the Caribbean and Central and South America heterosexuals are the primary victims. In the United States, it is Black American women who make up the largest numbers of new cases.
In 2013, this simply shouldn’t be. This goes beyond having “safe sex”, this has to do with governments and of course the global pharmaceutical industry. There should be a cure, we need a cure and we need it now. Make yourself aware people, educate, disseminate information and let’s all work together to eradicate this awful pandemic.
